Major Initiatives Unveiled at China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week 2026
At its opening ceremony in Guizhou Province, China, the 2026 China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week (CAECW) unveiled a comprehensive portfolio of strategic initiatives, marking an important milestone. These announcements highlight the platform’s development from bilateral educational exchanges to a comprehensive, regionally significant framework for international cooperation since its founding in 2008.

China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week 2026 Unveils Major Initiatives
The unveiling of the China-ASEAN Smart Education Capacity Building Project was one of the event’s highlights. The project intends to use intelligent technologies to improve educational equity and quality throughout the region, acknowledging artificial intelligence as a key driver of future education. In order to guarantee that a larger population benefits from digital transformation, it directly supports the execution of China’s national “AI + Education” Action Plan.
Strengthening Vocational Training and Talent Mobility
There were two main institutes formally launched. Shenzhen Polytechnic University’s China-ASEAN Vocational Education Digital Competency Center (Thailand) has set up physical branches in Malaysia and Thailand. It constructs a dual-node network to disseminate technical skills within ASEAN. The Guiyang-Guian International Talent Entrepreneurship Park was also unveiled. The park, which now houses 15 firms started by ASEAN students, is fast becoming a premier innovation and entrepreneurial hotspot in southwest China.
The organisers also launched the International Mutual Recognition Framework for TVET (Technical and Vocational Education and Training) Learning Outcomes, further bolstering the vocational ecosystem. This framework sets up established standards for reciprocal recognition, successfully breaking down obstacles to cross-border mobility for qualified people, and providing a practical roadmap for stronger regional industry-academia cooperation.
Fostering Innovation and Standardising Brands
The newly launched China-ASEAN Innovation and Entrepreneurship College will be key to gathering global university resources. It is responsible for promoting academic interchange, training young innovative talents and incubating cooperative ventures, broadening the scope for youth cooperation.
In addition, the permanent host of CAECW, Guizhou Province, officially announced the certification criteria for the “Guijiang Workshops”. These workshops are the flagship brand of Guizhou’s vocational education models for export, and a strategic step to match Chinese educational standards with global industry needs. The new guidelines are designed to govern brand development and improve the quality of cooperation. The workshops are expected to become a hallmark of China’s international vocational education cooperation.
Guizhou’s Vision for Regional Integration
The representatives concluded with a promise from the host province and a three-pronged vision for the future:
1. AI-Driven Collaboration: Leverage artificial intelligence to expand the scope of collaboration in digital education technologies, vocational education and scientific research.
2. Youth Connectivity: Increase people-to-people connectivity through more youth sports tournaments, cultural study tours and social exchanges.
3. Platform Expansion: Extending the CAECW beyond education to critical sectors including trade, industrial growth, high-level exchanges, ecological conservation, and cultural tourism.
From its modest beginnings, the CAECW has evolved into a pillar of regional diplomacy. Guizhou, as the permanent venue, reiterated its determination to develop a closer China-ASEAN community with a shared future, saying education is the foundation for greater economic and social partnerships.
