“Go Hong Kong” mobile app launches

The Immigration Department (ImmD) announced the launch of the “Go Hong Kong” mobile application (September 16). This app allows eligible frequent visitors to Hong Kong to complete their enrolment for the e-Channel service using smartphones that have a camera, Near-Field Communication (NFC) capability, and internet connectivity before arriving in Hong Kong. Upon successful enrolment, visitors may utilise the e-Channel service upon their arrival in Hong Kong.

Visitors who meet the specified criteria can register for the e-Channel service through the “Go Hong Kong” mobile application: • At least 18 years old; • Possess a valid electronic travel document issued by the Immigration Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and, if necessary, a multiple visit visa;
• Have no negative record in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region; and
• Have travelled to Hong Kong through Hong Kong International Airport two or more times within the last 24 months at the time of enrolment.

Eligible visitors can finalise their enrolment submission for the e-Channel service through the “Go Hong Kong” mobile application. This entails supplying an anticipated arrival date within the upcoming three months, along with an email address, scanning the biodata page of the travel document, reading the chip data, and undergoing facial recognition for identity verification. The ImmD will inform the eligible visitor about the result of their enrolment through the “Go Hong Kong” mobile application and via email.

Once the enrolment is approved, visitors simply need to enter Hong Kong on or before the expected date of arrival submitted to activate the e-Channel service. If a visitor does not enter Hong Kong on or before that date, the corresponding enrolment record will automatically expire.
