LG Innotek and NVIDIA – Working Together to Lead the Physical AI Market.

LG Innotek is working with NVIDIA to develop a sensor solution for physical AI and robotics. This is an important step to gain a dominant position in the physical AI sector.

LG Innotek unveiled its latest sensing solutions, including the 3-megapixel (MP) camera module and the Multi-modal Vision System (MVS), at GTC Berlin held in Berlin, Germany, [on 20th October] that are designed to implement NVIDIA Holoscan Sensor Bridge (HSB) technology to provide real-time sensor connectivity to GPU.

GTC is an annual global development and commercial strategy conference presented by NVIDIA. The latest technology developments including GPUs, AI and autonomous driving are discussed at GTC. The event brings together top technology businesses from across the world, including Microsoft and Amazon, and industry leaders who develop on top of NVIDIA’s platforms and technologies.

HSB is the open-source sensor fabric connected to Ethernet from NVIDIA. It allows the data obtained by the sensors to be delivered straight to an AI computer without going through the CPU, thereby creating a “data highway.” The NVIDIA Holoscan Platform enables physical artificial intelligence systems like autonomous vehicles and robotics to digest information and make choices faster. Industry views HSB as a fundamental technology that will drive the future physical AI environment.

LG Innotek’s convergence sensing capabilities such as camera, LiDar and radar are based on world-class optical design capabilities the business has accumulated in the mobile, autonomous driving and robotics sectors. “This partnership will enable us to expand our collaboration with global physical AI companies using the NVIDIA platform and increase opportunities to provide camera and sensing solutions with HSB technology,” said an official from LG Innotek.

Going forward, the two firms want to expand their collaboration on physical AI sensing solutions such as vision sensing and robotic hands for humanoid robots that can be connected with the next-generation NVIDIA platform leveraging HSB technology. They also will keep working closely together, including showing off these solutions at next year’s CES and GTC.

Meanwhile, LG Innotek is aggressively seeking future business prospects based on its highly scalable core technologies such as sensing, substrates and control established through cooperation with global major tech clients. In particular, the company is speeding up its physical AI business, including autonomous driving and robotics, to quickly ensure future growth engines.

Last year, LG Innotek entered into a “strategic partnership” with Aeva, a U.S. leader in LiDAR technology, in the autonomous driving space. This year, the company has begun to collaborate with Applied Intuition, a U.S. company that develops software for autonomous vehicles, and Kakao Mobility, the leading mobility platform company in Korea, to co-develop autonomous driving solutions.
The company is also moving quickly to position itself early in the robotics space, collaborating with Boston Dynamics to create robotic components and starting mass manufacturing of camera modules for its robotics customers in North America.

CEO Moon Hyuksoo stated, “Our collaboration with NVIDIA is further recognition of LG Innotek’s technological competitiveness.” He added, “This collaboration is a great opportunity to rapidly expand LG Innotek’s differentiated convergence sensing solutions in the global market. As a ‘physical AI total solution provider’ encompassing not only sensing but also communication modules and semiconductor substrates, we will quickly gain an early foothold in the physical AI solutions market.”
