Hyundai showcases its autonomous driving technology strategy
A new stage in Hyundai Motor Group’s (the Group) autonomous driving technology strategy has begun with the announcement that its Data Flywheel is now fully operational. In order to gain a competitive edge through faster learning and technological advancement, the system establishes a positive feedback loop of data gathering, AI training, validation, and deployment.
The Group showcased its autonomous driving development strategy, technology roadmap, major accomplishments, and implementation plans at its “HMG Autonomous Driving Media Day” at 42dot headquarters in Gyeonggi Province, Korea. The presentation explained how integrated data and AI systems form the basis for next-generation vehicle technology and highlighted the Group’s strategic positioning in the worldwide autonomous driving technology race.
During the event, the Group highlighted the operational architecture and execution plan that converts extensive real-world driving data into ongoing technological advancements and recognised the Data Flywheel as a crucial component of its autonomous driving competitiveness.
Along with describing the history and future goals of its Vision-Language-Action (VLA) technology development effort, 42dot also presented important technologies and the state of development for the Group’s exclusive autonomous driving artificial intelligence, Atria AI.
In keeping with the occasion, the Group released video of an SDV testbed equipped with Atria AI negotiating challenging urban traffic without the need for driver assistance. The autonomous driving system in the video, which operates at a Level 2++ capacity, demonstrates how the Data Flywheel is facilitating an ongoing cycle of learning, validation, and performance enhancement.
Minwoo Park, President and Head of Advanced Vehicle Platform (AVP) Division at Hyundai Motor Group and CEO of 42dot stated: “Autonomous driving competition is no longer about comparing specific features. Competitiveness is determined by how much data you secure, how quickly you learn and how effectively you can reflect those results in actual products and services. At its core, autonomous driving competitiveness comes down to having systems that enable continuous, rapid learning. Hyundai Motor Group will develop autonomous driving technology that customers can trust, based on a virtuous cycle of data, AI and validation. Our goal is to ensure the safety and quality levels customers can trust while we learn and improve rapidly.”
